MeetMarket 2011 at Sheffield Doc/Fest now open for submissions of documentary and interactive projects

MeetMarket, to be held in the framework of the Sheffield Doc/Fest is a good opportunity for pitching new documentary, factual and cross-platform projects to over 170 decision makers, buyers, funders and mentors. The call for applications is open online until Friday 1st April and can be accessed here.

Approximately 65 projects will be selected to pitch, all of whom will have a one-to-one meeting with key funders and decision-makers. Documentaries of any genre are eligible at any stage of development.

ShortDocs DocsBarcelona Spanair

DocsBarcelona, the international documentary film festival and meeting point of professionals will be held on2 to 6 February 2011.
The coming edition of the festival will also host the “ShortDocs DocsBarcelona Spanair”, a competition for short documentaries.

Short documentaries can be submitted at www.docsbarcelona.com/shortdocs-spanair until 22 January. Entries must be max 10 minutes long, in any format and on any subject.
The best short documentary will be awarded 12 Spanair flights –return tickets– for 2 persons.
On the 25th January , the voting period will be opened to choose the “Best Short Film ShortDocs Barcelona Spanair “.
The award delivery will take place at the DocsBarcelona Festival closing ceremony, on February the 6th.

European Producers Club’s 44th Co-Production Forum - Rome 2010

The European Producers Club (EPC) is launching a call for projects for its next Coproduction Forum, which will take place during the Rome International Film Festival 2010, on Saturday, October 30th.
The event is open to producers with at least two films produced and released in movie theatres. If selected, you will have the opportunity to meet individually a wide variety of film professionals according to your project’s needs; to participate in the Forums organised in 2011, during the major European Film Festivals; and to benefit from the support of the EPC in-between events.

DOCSBARCELONA International Documentary Film Festival - Documentary Screenings and Pitching Forum

This year the DocsBarcelona Film Festival will be back from the 1st to the 6th of February 2011 to present the best documentary film selection.
The festival will also host the DocsBarcelona Pitching Forum, where directors can bring their own projects and look for funding opportunities. Click here to submit your project (deadline 1st December).
Like last year, Docs Barcelona will be offering special fees to encourage the participation
of professionals from European emerging economies and industries.

EDN Online Pitching - Call for cross-platform Projects

EDN – European Documentary Network has established EDN Online Pitching. This is a new thematic pitching format, based on an online video conference, where four documentary projects will be introduced and pitched to a group of leading international financiers and decision makers. For its first session EDN is calling for documentary projects with a cross-platform potential. Each pitching session will last one hour. The first session, focused on cross-platform projects, will take place on September 30, 2010 at 14:00.
In order to submit your documentary project you must:
1) Upload your documentary project at the EDN web site. You do so by adding the project in question to your EDN Membership Profile.
2) Email a 2-page description of your project and a link to the project profile at the EDN web site to Ove Rishøj Jensen – ove@edn.dk.

Magyar Cartoon Forum – Special Fee for Maltese applicants

The Magyar Cartoon Forum, the co-production springboard for animated TV and cross-media projects, is approaching. Animation professionals coming from the new EU countries, such as Malta, will get a special registration fee of € 500 EUR instead of € 900, and will have the unique opportunity to meet the market in a convivial atmosphere, discover the latest trends in animation series and meet potential partners.

Aubagne International Film Festival - Call for entries

In the framework of the Aubagne Film Festival, registrations are open this year for 2 competitions:
- FEATURE FILMS: first, second and third films of any cinematographic genre (fiction, documentary, experimental, animation), having imperatively original music, are accepted. Shooting formats allowed: film and video.

9th Berlinale Talent Campus - Filmmakers positioning themselves
Dates: February 12 – 17, 2011
The Berlinale Talent Campus is a creative academy and networking platform for 350 up-and-coming filmmakers from all over the world. It lasts for six days and offers a huge variety of different programme elements for directors, screenwriters, actors, cinematographers, producers, editors, sound designers, composers, production designers and film critics.
To be eligible, applicants have to fulfill the following requirements:
- Work or study in the areas of screenwriting, documentary filmmaking, producing, directing, cinematography, acting, editing, film criticism, sound design, film music composition, art direction or production design
- Have worked on a short film that was awarded a prize OR have their work being screened at an international film festival OR have worked on a film of at least 60 minutes in length OR be a film student in the final year or in a post-graduate programme.
The 9th edition of the Campus will focus on filmmakers positioning themselves in today’s world of cinema. The Campus will support and foster emerging filmmakers through lectures, panel discussions and stars-in-the-limelight sessions, bringing them together with seasoned experts able to guide them and shed light on the road ahead.

The Euro-Med Documentary Market

Call for entries of projects & productions for pitching & screenings
MEDIMED is a three-day dedicated market, set in relaxing Sitges in front of the Mediterranean Sea, to celebrate the 11th edition of this dedicated market. MEDIMED will present again an exclusive selection of documentary projects and programmes, aiming to enhance the professional and creative exchange between the 12 MEDA countries and the European Union.
The Mediterranean Producer's Association, APIMED, with the financial support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, is calling for entries of:
New Documentary Productions – of any length and genre produced in 2009 or 2010-
New Documentary Projects - of any length and genre having in place 25% of finance in place, and/or a broadcast guarantee, and/or a co-production agreement.
Entry deadline for the submission of both programs and projects is 30th June.

"Every step you take" – Applications open for the Berlin Today Award 2012

Directors from all over the world are invited to submit their works for the next Berlin Today Award 2012.
"Every step you take" will be the theme of the 2012 edition of the Award, encouraging filmmakers to reflect on how small decisions we take in everyday life may intrinsically influence our near future: as in the “butterfly-effect theory”, what is an apparently harmless accessory in one part of the world might become a major statement in another one, leading to a chain of reactions.

After a pre-selection, 15 Talents will be invited to attend a producers' meeting during the Berlinale Talent Campus 2011. The five finalist teams will be announced at the end of the 61st Berlin International Film Festival.

Anniversary… 10 Years Of Documentary Campus!

In occasion of its 10th anniversary, the German Documentary Campus is organising a hectic weekend full of activities and surprises. 4 workshops will explore various facets of the documentary world, also giving the opportunity to meet some of the most distinguished international filmmakers.

The party will go on with the screening of a fine selection of Masterschool films, 3D screenings; a panel discussion by Prof. Dr. Jo Groebel, director of the German Digital Institute in Berlin, on the future of media; a pitching forum and so on.

MeetMarket: Call for Applications

MeetMarket is a pitching initiative hosted by the Sheffield Doc/Fest and supported by the MEDIA Programme, designed to match documentary, factual and cross-platform makers' most innovative project ideas with UK and international buyers.

Applications can register here for the 2010 MeetMarket edition until Wednesday 1 September.
Approximately 60 projects will be selected to pitch, all of whom will have one-to-one meeting with key funders and decision-makers match-made and scheduled. Projects in any genre of documentary/factual can be at any stage, from early development to post-production, and don’t need to have financing secured.

Unveiled the shortlist for LUX Prize 2010
The European Parliament has finally unveiled the three contending films for the LUX Prize 2010.
The shortlist comprises Greek/German co-production Plato's Academy [trailer] by Filippos Tsitos, German feature When We Leave [trailer] by Feo Aladag and Benelux co-production Illégal [trailer] by Olivier Masset-Depasse.
The films will be screened during the Venice Days on September 10 and 11 and presented by their directors.

In addition, the LUX Prize, Venice Days and Europa Cinemas have launched 27 Times Cinema, an interesting initiative aimed at fostering a European young audience: 27 young film lovers aged 18-26 – one from each of the member states of the European Union -, will attend the entire Venice festival and deliver their opinions on the different films from their individual perspectives, whilst taking part in debates with Members of the European Parliament and film professionals.
It will be possible to see the videos of the discussions daily on Cineuropa.org as well as to participate in them online.
